Upcycling is not just fun, but a great way to make sure you aren’t leaving a large carbon footprint! Here’s a great way to save an old tire from ending up in a land-fill, by turning it into a chic Ottoman!
Have an old tire lying around? Well, then read on!
Things you need: An Old Tire, a wooden ply cut into circles(the size of the tire), a jute rope, a few nails, a screwdriver, a hot glue gun, a drilling machine, a piece of cloth, a paint brush and a jar of sealant.
Clean the tire with the help of a cloth and some water. It might need some good scrubbing if it’s dirty. Now place the wooden ply over the tire and with the help of a drilling machine make three holes into the wood. Make sure that the holes are deep enough to pierce the rubber of the tire. After making the holes, use the nails and with the help of a screwdriver attach the ply to the tire. Repeat this with the other side of the tire as well.
Now use some glue in the center of the plywood and start gluing the rope in a coil-like pattern. Don’t forget to use enough glue for the rope to stay securely in place. Once you’ve finished covering the whole ply with rope, continue winding it around the sides of the tire.
After covering the whole tire, cut the rope. Make sure that glue the end of the rope securely, so that it doesn’t come out. Once done, apply the sealant (2 coats in an interval of 1 hour) with the help of a brush onto the entire ottoman. And Voila! Your rope ottoman is ready. (Give it some time to dry. The sealant can take up to 2 weeks to dry completely.)
P.S. The sealant can take up to 2 weeks to dry completely.
